"Charcoal Grilled Chicken, Bulgogi, Grilled Eel..." Gwangyang Food Tour and Gwangyang City Tour
Gwangyang Food Tour
Now that the sweltering heat is at its peak three days before the overlap, charcoalgrilled foods that can have a healthy summer with two fevers in the heat of three days are stimulating the salivary glands of gourmets.
Thanks to the abundant charcoal from Baegun Mountain, Gwangyang has developed a variety of grilled foods that are good for boosting immunity and replenishing energy, such as charcoalgrilled chicken, Gwangyang bulgogi, and grilled eel.
Charcoal grilled chicken is a national dish that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or gender, by grilling well-trimmed chicken on deep charcoal, removing oil and keeping it fresh.
Gwangyang Bulgogi is the representative food of Gwangyang, in which thinly sliced beef is grilled over charcoal in a bronze furnace. There is even a “Gwangyang Bulgogi Special Street” selected as a food theme street by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
Grilled eel in Gwangyang Bay, where the Seomjin River meets the sea, is also rich in unsaturated fat, so it is considered a summer health food that lowers cholesterol and supplements high-quality protein.
Above all, charcoal grilled chicken is a food designated by Gwangyang City in the ‘Namdo representative food’ section of the ‘2021 Jeonnam Tourism Photo Contest’.
The contest period is until October 22, and you can submit a photo of a hidden tourist spot you found while traveling in Gwangyang or charcoal-grilled chicken.
An official from Gwangyang city said, “Our ancestors prepared special food to reinforce their weak energy during the sweaty three-bok sweltering heat since ancient times. ” he said.
He added, “I hope you enjoy the summer of Gwangyang in the four valleys of Baekunsan, Seomjingang, Bonggang, and Eochi, and challenge yourself to a contest with food photos that can only be tasted there.”
Sambok includes Chobok, Jeopok, and Malbok. This year, the overlapping date is July 21, and Malbok is Wolbok (越伏) with an interval of 20 days between overlapping and Malbok, on August 10th.
Gwangyang City Tour
Gwangyang City will start the ‘Gwangyang City Tour that shines day and night’, which has been delayed due to the corona virus.
The 'Gwangyang City Tour that shines day and night', which travels all over Gwangyang with a culture and tourism commentator, welcomes tourists with a thorough quarantine posture, such as disinfecting vehicles before operation, providing hand sanitizer, and checking temperature before boarding.
The Gwangyang City Tour is planned to be divided into a night view course (July-August) and an autumn course (September-November) with the characteristics of the seasons.
The night view course departs from Suncheon Station at 4 pm, when the midsummer sun sets, passes through Gwangyang Bus Terminal, Jungma Tourist Information Center, and tours Gubongsan Mountain Observatory, Neraengigol Starlight Festival, Haeoreum Overpass & Rainbow Bridge, etc. .
The first course, Gubongsan Observatory, is the '2020 Korea Tourism Organization's Top 100 Night Tours'. During the day, you can see Gwangyang Bay, Suncheon, Yeosu Industrial Complex, and Namhae at a glance.
After dinner at Geumgangsando, enjoy dinner at Yi Sun-sin Bridge Food Town, where restaurants are lined up, and when the sun goes down, a full-fledged night view tour begins.
Breathe in nature at the 'Neraengi Valley Natural Recreation Forest', which is frequently listed as the 'Best 30 Night Spots of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism' and Jeollanam-do's recommended tourist destinations, and immerse yourself in the feast of 14.3 million lights.
However, the Neraengnigol Starlight Festival is only operated on Saturdays, and you can enjoy the romance of a midsummer night at Madong Music Fountain.
The Haeoreum Overpass and Rainbow Bridge, which are the symbols of Gwangyang, in the shape of the sun leaping vigorously on the waves of Gwangyang Bay, provide a subtle melody of light and make the hearts of tourists flutter.
Gwangyang City Tourism Council Chairman Lee Gwi-sik said, “This year, the Gwangyang City Tour is promoted as part of the DMO (Regional Tourism Promotion Organization) project. It is a refreshing opportunity.”
He added, "You will be able to enjoy the beautiful nights of Gwangyang, such as the Neuraengigol Recreational Forest, Haeoreum Overpass, and Yi Sun-sin Bridge."
Meanwhile, the autumn course (September-November) departs from Suncheon Station at 9:00 am Gwangyang Bus Terminal, Jungma Tourist Information Center, Gubongsan Observatory, Wine Cave, Gwangyang Bulgogi Specialty Street (Lunch), Jeonnam Museum of Art & Gwangyang Art Warehouse, and Baegunsan Mountain. It is planned to be operated as a course to visit the Recreational Forest, Healing Forest, and History and Culture Center.
On Mondays when the Jeonnam Museum of Art and the Gwangyang Art Warehouse are closed, you can enjoy a parade of cosmos on the Seocheon Flower Road, where flowers bloom all year round.
